I need a solution

I found a similar post with an answer but wondering if there is something I can do, short of uninstalling/reinstalling CA.  In the other situation, Event ID 152 was logged just after an upgrade of the CA server, indicating the configuration database was empty (and that the user had possibly clicked on 'OK' during the upgrade BEFORE cycling the Accelerator Admin service).

Searching the log files, I can't find Event ID 152 anywhere during the last upgrade, which was months ago and everything was working fine at the time.  The CA client has been used for months to conduct searches since the last upgrade, and the only reason I'm just now aware of the EVBAAdmin page problem is becuase the user need to create some reports, and when choosing the "Reports" button, the CA client just says "Disconnected from report server" - so I thought I would double-check the report server configuration option on the Admin page...

I can, and probably will, open a case with Symantec but am hoping to find an answer sooner.  We have some "visitors" that want proof of review now (Of course they do!  I would expect nothing less than for something to be broken at precisely the moment it absolutely cannot be broken - wouldn't you?).  Hope everyone else is having a good day :-)


Cannot run report scan on Non-windows file server (NetApp)

Hello,

I've been trying to configure FSA Reports on a NetApp filer, but not being successfull. I am running EV 10 for FS and a FAS3270 filer on Data Ontap 8.0.

The proxy server for the FSA reporting on the NetApp is the EV server itself. I am able to run a report scan on a local volume, but the same is not true for the NetApp filer.

It is enabled and seems to be well configured, but whenever a hit the "Run FSA Reporting Scan" under the filer menu on EV Admin Console, neither the scan start time nor end time gets updated.

The reporting scan status collumn for the NetApp filer is "Reporting enabled".

I tried to see whats happening using DTRACE in verbose mode for the FSAReportingService. And all it shows me is the following lines:

Enterprise Vault and Exchange 2007 OWA

In the last blog post I showed how Enterprise Vault integrates in to Exchange 2003 OWA.  This blog post covers the integration with Exchange 2007 OWA.

The integration is simplified since the component that needs installing is only installed on the Client Access Server (CAS).  You don’t install anything on servers hosting just a mailbox role.  This is what the main page looks like:

 

Retrieval is nice and simple, a double click on an archived item will cause the item to be retrieved and displayed like this example:

 

You can archive and restore items.  Restoring an item shows you a dialog like this:

 

Search and Archive Explorer also work very well:

 

One of the neatest things is the nice positioning of the toolbar, and it makes the experience very close to the one of the Outlook Add-in inside Outlook.

Moving Deleted Items

I need a solution

Hi, I'm using EV10 SP1, Outlook 2010, Exchange 2010, outlook add-in Sp2.  I'm moving items from my Deleted Items to my virtual vault. 

1. If the target is a sub folder in VV then I get a popup saying it could take some time to move items but nothing actually happens, I believe due to calendar items being present.  It seems to do a scan of all the items and if a calendar item is present, since we do not archive them, it won't move anything. (One user tried to move 44,000 items from Deleted Items but his Outlook locked up, trying to scan them all I think).

2. If the target is Deleted Items in the VV, then I get the copying status window appear and all items are moved, apart from calendar items which trigger a popup saying I cannot move items due to policy restrictions.  All items are moved apart from calendar items.

Why the distinction between Deleted Items being the target folder and any other folder?

Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task (in report mode) is not generating a report

Version: Symantec Enterprise Vault 9.0.4

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem at the moment so I changed ticked "Run in report mode" on the task im interested in, restarted the archving task and did a Run Now on all mailboxes.

After it finished, no report was generated in the Enterprise Vault\Reports folder. Reports from other processes have been generated (ie. provisioning, moved items, PST exports, PST mig, etc).

The only left field thing I can think of is that this has been broken since moving from Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) to Windows Server 2008  R2 (64 bit), but all other services and reports are working... unless there is some reference somewhere preventing the report from getting created. I'm running a dtrace on the archiving task now to see if any obvious errors turn up.

Has anyone had this problem?

Cannot preview the search and Export to PST

We are using Version 10.0.1

According to the user, it can be able to export and review the email before, I think the issue is after the Support Engineer help us to reinstall the EV Bin on the CA, (previous we have RPC error , so the support help us to reinstall the EV binary)

Today Legal Compliance want to export those email, when they preview the searched email, it will have a error message "An internal failure occurred, Internal Error : no such interafact supported (0x80004002)"

 

Also in the Event log,

Event ID 375, cannot export to pst, in the CA export panel.it just keep say creating,

Estimating size for FSA Reporting Database

I need a solution

Is there a guideline for sizing FSA reporting databases for EV 9 and / or 10?

ie an indication of how much data per file scanned is stored in the data base, or conversely database size per million files scanned, or such like.

None of the Installation, Admin, Planning, Reporting, or Performance guides seem to have any indication.

I found the rather dated (2010)  Technote TECH70262 - Sizing guidelines for Enterprise Vault databases (EV8), which gives the default initial sizes, of the dbs, and then the rather unhelpful statement :-

"Ensure that there is adequate space for the database to grow as monitoring data is added."

That's exactly what I am trying to do, but I cannot find any info from which to make any kind of calculation as to what "Adequate" might be.

Perhaps someone with a running FSA reporting DB can make a rough calculation.

Hi Guys,

I have a question as the Latest SOP regarding Pre\Post backup scripts ive read contradicts what ive just read here:http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35932

We are using Arcserve not BackupExec or netbackup but i cant find if you are running a version later than 8.0 its still ok to bin these reg keys an the whole pre\post backup scripts.

Cany anyone confirm if its safe to just let Arcserve proceed without the scripts running.

upgrade from 2007 to 10

Hello,
 
I'm planing to perform an upgrade from 2007 to 10.
Exchange version is 2007 and SQL server is not local on EV server.
 
I have two questions regarding the process:
 
1. Should I upgrade to the latest version in any step? (2007 - 8.0 SP5 - 9.0.2 32 bit - 9.0.2 64 bit - 10.0.2)
 
2. Since EV server supports for outlook add in is one version backward, and i would like to wait few days between one upgrade to another - 
what will be the best way to do so without interrupt the end users?

I need a solution

Hi

i need a solution to remove EV shortcuts from 100+ mailboxes once the export wizard has run

our customer is removing EV functionality in a subset of their business, they have approx 100 mailboxes and wish to restore these mailboxes back to full mail and stop EV archivng them

i have experience running the Export tool from EV, however when running this the shortcuts are not deleted when the mail is restored, so ...

 

i'm after a solution to bulk remove the EnterpriseVault.shortcut message class from all mailboxes 

 

i understand that i can use Exchange Powershell to do this and have the following command

anyone know how i can translate this into searching for the EnterpriseVault.shortcut message class ?

 

Delete all emails that meet the search query

1 Get-Mailbox -Server  "*Server*" | Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery'Subject:"*Subject*" and Body:"*Body*"' -deletecontent

Enterprise Vault 10.0.2 File System Archiving , Archived Item Icons

I need a solution

Hi all ,

I am testing File System Archiving on Windows File Server (windows server 2008 r2 )

When an item ( video file , document file etc...) archivied , a red X appears on file. I think it means that that item is archived.

My question is :

Is there a way to change the archived item icon ( red X ) ? The X sign does not look well .

Enterprise Vault Search and selecting more than 10 at once

My title is not the best and I apologize for that.

 

We are running Enterprise Vault 10.0 with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and also 2010. (Exchange)

What I need assistance for is when I am exporting to a PST file. I go to search and search for all the e-mails I want to export. Now the page displays 10 results at a time. 

I have one person with 3000 e-mails. When I check select all, it only takes the 10 shown on the page. Then I have to "add to basket" and click next and do it again. This is not practical since we have over 150 persons. I believe I found how to make the page show more results, but what we want is a simple way to actually select all emails we want. So if it is 3000, it will select 3000 without having to display 3000 on one page.

 

The change display options from say 10 to 100 are here in case someone is curious (I have not verified this, just found it online)

1. Create or modify the webapp.ini found in the \program files\enterprise vault\ directory on the Vault server.

 

2. Add the following line:-

Where number is the number or results needed. 10000 items will show 100 pages in Archive Explorer.

3. Restart the IIS service (IISRESET from a run prompt) and then try the search again.

 

Any assistance would be wonderful.

Is there a script that can be used to delete multiple File system archives?  In the VAC you have to select each archive you want to delete, your unable to select multiples.

I need a solution

Hi all,

If I export an archive back to original mailbox, deleted archived email items will also be back to mailbox, although user has deleted shortcut. Our retension policy does not delete storage items if user deletes the shortcut. User can manually de-archive items in his mailbox but this way will be quite time-consuming.

My question is: is there any way to export archive but won't bring deleted items back?

I need a solution

We get the following error every now and then when try to make changes to target file server settings such as change policy or enable pass-through recall although it works fine when you click ok to the error message. Should we be worried about this error message? or just ignore?
