EV 10.0.1 FSA Agent push install stuck - retry push install success

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

While we were trying to push install FSA Agent on a Windows 2003 R2 file server the installation was stuck, log shows following

Finally we just clicked the 'X' button to close the install wizard and retried installation from another EV FSA Server and installation went fine.

"Last Backup Date" is being reset in SQL

I need a solution

I have an issue with my Enterprise Vault Database backup. I ran a database backup on Friday, and when I checked afterward, the database properties told me the correct date for "Last Database Backup". When I check back today, I see that both my Directory database, vault store database and fingerprint database are set to "none" when I check "Last database backup".

How could this happen?
The Agent for Enterprise Vault for Netbackup is being used

By Installing_and_Configuring guide of Enterprise vault 10 following types of Enterprise Vault license are available:

Production license

Trialware license

Temporary licenses

Production license is not interesting in test envirionment.

Tell me please, how and where I can obtaine a trialware or temporary licencse of EV 10?

UEV10 deployment scanner showing wrong number of CPUs

Hi

the EV10 deployment scanner is showing the wrong number of CPUs - our EVserver is virtual and has 4 CPUs configured and these show within Windows

the deployment scanner for EV10 shows 1 core and 2 processors !!

however the EV9 deployment scanner shows the 4 CPUs as expected

i havent ran the EV10 installer yet so dont know if it will progress ?!

 

has anyone ever come across this ?

allow both http and https access to enterprise vault v10 sp1

I need a solution

hi

we currently allow http access (LAN only)  to our evault server (v10 sp1) but as we have more and more mac clients i am considering making enterprise vault available to our users when they are not on the LAN and therefore like to configure SSL access. (am getting slightly fed up with having had to wait 6 months for the ev helper to work with office 2011 sp2 but only if you are running mac osx 10.7 as 10.8 support is not coming out till next month and we simply cannot wait 6-8 months for symantec to bring their software support inline with the most recent mac osx (or windows) developments.

i am wondering whether i can allow both HTTP and HTTPS access to the evault server at the same time

this way i do not have to go through the shortcut processing and replace http with https in the shortcutbody.

on the public internet i can do a redirect from http to https using our DNS provider so i only allow HTTPS access through our firewall but i have not figured out a way how to do this on the LAN DNS so was thinking about allowing both http (for lan) and https (for wan)

do you know if this is possible?

Enhancement to Responsibility by Department report

This is a request for an enhancement to the Responsibility by Department report in Compliance Accelerator.

The Responsibilty by Department report currently only includes "out of the box" roles.

 We have customized several department roles and therefore need a report that lists all department roles  for each user in each Department, not just the "out of the box" roles.

This is an audit requirement. 

The Effective Roles by User report includes custom roles so they must be available in one of the SQL tables.

EV for Exchange - 2007 to 2010 Migration

Hello,

We are getting ready to cutover to Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2007 and I am in need of some verification for the EV side of this. Symantec's documentation has been lacking (understandably, as every case is different) on the subject. Between some links I've found here, plus the Setting Up Exchange guide, I have been able to put together a plan to deal with the migration. I've tried technical support, and other than telling me I should take an outage they have referred me to professional services for further consultation.

We are currently running EV 10 SP1 for Exchange, running against a MS Exchange 2007 environment. Our current EV environment includes 1 EV Application server, 1 EV SQL server, and NetApp storage for all of the archives and indexes.

The new Exchange 2010 environment will include 1 DAG made up of 2 mailbox servers. These mailbox servers will each host 2 active databases, and will store copies of the other node's databases. The mailbox servers also server the CAS and HUB roles.

This whitepaper (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH144726) was extremely helpful. The customer scenario outlined was very similar to our setup.

So here's my plan:

 

EV-APP-SERVER Prerequisites

_Verify Office 2007 SP2 is installed on EV-APP-SERVER (EV whitepaper pg 13)

_Verify KB968858 is installed on EV-APP-SERVER (EV whitepaper pg 13)

Migrate Vault Service Account Mailbox and Apply Policies

_Using Microsoft tools, move the COMPANY\EVADMIN mailbox from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 (EV whitepaper pg 6)

_Verify there are no errors

_Copy the PowerShell scripts from \\EV-APP-SERVER\sysapps\Enterprise Vault\PowerShellScripts to an Exchange server.

_From the Exchange 2010 management shell, run “SetEVThrottlingPolicy.ps1 –user COMPANY\EVADMIN” (EV whitepaper pg 13)

_From the Exchange 2010 management shell, run “SextEvExchangePermissions.ps1 –user COMPANY\EVADMIN –server MAILBOX-DATABASE-1 –action add” (EV whitepaper pg 13)

_From the Exchange 2010 management shell, run “SextEvExchangePermissions.ps1 –user COMPANY\EVADMIN –server MAILBOX-DATABASE-2 –action add” (EV whitepaper pg 13)

Create EV Service Mailboxes and Apply Send As Permission

_Create a service mailbox called ev_MAILBOX-DATABASE-1_mailbox to be placed in an active database on MAILBOX-DATABASE-1. (EV whitepaper pg 6)

_Create a service mailbox called ev_MAILBOX-DATABASE-2_mailbox to be placed in an active database on MAILBOX-DATABASE-2.

_From the Exchange 2010 management shell, run the following command for each mailbox created above:

Add-ADPermission –Identity <systemmailbox> -user COMPANY\EVADMIN –AccessRights ExtendedRight – ExtentedRights “Send As”

Add an Exchange Server Archive Target

_In the Vault Administration Console (VAC) on EV-APP-SERVER, browse to Enterprise Vault-> COMPANY Enterprise Vault -> Targets -> Exchange -> COMPANY.com -> Exchange Server.

_Right click on Exchange server, and choose New -> Exchange Server

_Work through the Exchange server Wizard. Will need the following information:

                _Exchange server name

                _The name of the system mailbox to be used to connect to Exchange (created above)

_Finish the wizard.

_Repeat for additional mail servers in the DAG

Add an Exchange Server Archiving Task

_In the Vault Administration Console (VAC) on EV-APP-SERVER, browse to Enterprise Vault-> COMPANY Enterprise Vault -> Enterprise Vault Servers -> Tasks

_Right click Tasks and choose New -> Exchange Mailbox Task

_Work through the wizard. Will need the following information:

                _The name of the Exchange Server to be archived

                _ The name of the system mailbox to be used to connect to Exchange (created above)

_Repeat for additional mail servers in the DAG

Review All Settings For Exchange Server Target and Tasks

_Verify Exchange server settings look the same as 2007MAIL1/2

_Verify Task is scheduled to run during normal processing and properties are similar to those of 2007MAIL1/2 tasks.

_Verify task is enabled to run and is in the running state.

                _If the task is not in the running state, click the play button to start it.

_After next scheduled run of archiving tasks, verify via Event Log that the task run.

Enable Test Users For Archiving

_Enable a test user in a database on MAILBOX-DATABASE-1

_Enable a test user in a database on MAILBOX-DATABASE-2

_Run the Exchange Provisioning task for COMPANY.com, or wait until 5PM or 2AM, to have the new mailboxes fully enabled.

_Right click on the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task for MAILBOX-DATABASE-1, choose Properties, Synchronization tab.

_Select all 3 check boxes, put the radio button to All mailboxes, and click the Synchronize button.

_Repeat the previous 2 steps for MAILBOX-DATABASE-2.

Test User Verification

_Using the Outlook client on EVREPORTS01P, connect to the Exchange mailbox to see if items are being archived for MAILBOX-DATABASE-1 test user.

_Verify presence of Outlook Add In toolbar buttons.

_Using the Outlook client on EVREPORTS01P, connect to the Exchange mailbox to see if items are being archived for MAILBOX-DATABASE-2 test user.

_Verify presence of Outlook Add In toolbar buttons.

_Connect to webmail for MAILBOX-DATABASE-1 test user and verify:

                _Verify presence of EV toolbar buttons.

                _Ability to access archived items, attachments, and set items to be archived and restored.

_Repeat above verification for MAILBOX-DATABASE-2 test user.

Migrate A Production User

_Using Microsoft tools, migrate a production user to the new mail server.

_When the migration is complete, verify there are no errors.

_Run the provisioning task in Enterprise Vault.

_Right click on the Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task for MAILBOX-DATABASE-1, choose Properties, Synchronization tab.

_Select all 3 check boxes, put the radio button to selected mailboxes, and click the Synchronize button. Select the appropriate user from the prompt and press OK.

_Using the Outlook client on EVREPORTS01P, connect to the Exchange mailbox to see if items are being archived for the production user.

_Verify ability to access archived items, attachments, and set items to be archived and restored.

_Verify presence of Outlook Add In toolbar buttons.

_Have the user login to the new webmail client and verify:

                _Verify presence of EV toolbar buttons.

                _Ability to access archived items, attachments, and set items to be archived and restored.

_Verify user can access http://EVAPPSERVER/enterprisevault and can search their archives.

DFS Deleteing reparse point files

Hi There

We have reparse point files on our dfs share I know that these files don't get replicated which I don't care about. However these are been deleted from the share which I do care about.

Does anyone know why these files are been deleting and maybe how can prevent this from happen?

Journaling and I/O load

Hi there,

Thanks for you help in advance.

We are thinking turn on Archiving for Journaling, but I am a bit worried about the I/O load. Our current Netapp SAN is high on IOPS already, and I don't want stress it out and cause performance issues for other system.

So my question is how much more load it will put on the system if we turn on Archiving for Journaling?

We use EV 9.0.1 with Exchange 2003 on Windows 2008 server, Netapp version is 8. Assume we archive everything in Journaling mailbox.

http to https - Do I need to rebuild shortcuts?

Taken out of the Install Guides...

*If you change the port after items have been archived, existing shortcuts will no longer work. Shortcuts in Outlook and Lotus Notes can be updated with the new protocol or port information using Synchronize mailboxes in the Enterprise Vault Administration Console, but customized shortcuts, FSA shortcuts and SharePoint shortcuts cannot be updated.*

 

Changing EV site from http to HTTPS - Do I still need to rebuild shortcuts if the shortcuts in question are custom, but do not have banner URL links or attachment links?

Access to Archived Email by Outlook Delegate

Hi All,

Does Enterrprise Vault support access to archived email by an Oultook delegate?

Out Org uses Outlook delegation heavily, if an email is archived to EV and the stub/shortcut is created in the mailbox, can a delegate (providing the have been given delegate access to the Outlook folder) able to see the stub/shortcut? and can the retreive the body/content of the email?

Archive task for 800 users

Hello Vault community,

I have got a list of 800 users in an Excel file such as :

There is absolutely no common value between these 800 users, not same country, not same department, not same office, not same state, etc.

So, I can't use the option "Run Now" in the archiving task, basically because it's only possible to select 1 mailbox (or mailboxes with common values).

How can I do? I think it's possible to do that with EVPM, if yes, how?

Hi to everybody.

I would very appreciate if someone answer the following question to me. It's written in admin guide that

Note:

Do not install the FSA Agent on Enterprise Vault servers.

I wonder is it not necessary when EV is already installed or it’s unsupported configuration and won’t work.

The aim is archive Windows File server.

Hi

I am new to EV and i have a simple question regarding Exchange mailbox archiving.Are the archives linket to a maiblox GUID or to a user account in A.D.

Scenario:

If a user leaves the company and i disconect/delete that user`s maiblox but dont disable/delete the A.D. account,will i be able to access the archive if i create a new maiblox for that user?

Ghost Exchange Mailboxes

We could use a fix for Ghost Exchange Mailboxes in Clearwell v.6.6 and beyond.  At this point, there is nothing on the road map to fix this issue.

When setting up Exchange collection tasks, Clearwell pulls up deleted Exchange mailboxes as though they are current mailboxes.  Collection is attempted and subsequently fails.

i checked the compatibility chart, it show that ev 9.0.3 is supported.

could i have some guide on how to configure that?

FSA duplicate folder name

Hello,

My question is about FSA.

What will be the archive name if two (or more) folder have the same name ?

AFAIK, EV gives the archive the same name as its folder name (if an archive point exist for the folder)

Let say we have configure the following target folder :

\\server1\D$\MainShare in ArchiveExplorerUI we should find and archive named MainShare

what will be the archive name if we configure the following target folder \\server2\D$\MainShare ?

Export and delete mail and folders in EV

I need a solution

We are running EV 9.0 in our environment with Exchange 2007SP3. I have a user who wants a particular archive folder deleted along with all of the sub-folders and email below it. I have done an archive export & delete from the EV console. If all is correct when is the folder removed form EV?
