EV client - problems opening archived items

I need a solution

EV Client 10.0.1, EV server version 9.0.0.

Some users have problems when opening same archived e-mail more than one time.

First time they open the archived e-mail in outlook (dobbel-click), it is opening as usual.
Next time, only the shortcut is opened.

If the user try another archived e-mail, this is opening fine the first time, then this is failing as well.

The same problem occurs from Archive Explorer and Archive Search,

I did set the tracing to max on the client, and in this log I can see the URL to the archived item. If I copy this URL to IE, I can open the archived item several times without problems.

Any tips on this problem?

Symantec Enterprise Vault API

I need a solution

Hi.I am currently on a email archiving product evaluation project and I can't find information about some criteria that i have about API. Does Enterprise Vault or Enterprise Vault.cloud have an API? And is the API  able to initiate, execute and obtain results at least in terms of:

Searching the repository based on the metadata values, full-text search indexing, search based on a folder in the hierarchy, access to the content of the search results? Do actions performed by the API allow modification of metadata describing the content of archived documents? Do actions performed by the API  observe the security system implemented by the repository in order to protect against unauthorized reading / modifying of archived content and metadata?

Need to replace FSA target file server

I need a solution

I am running FSA on EV v10.0.3.  I need to swap out my old FSA target file server (windows 2008 R2) with a new server (windows 2012 and preferrably with different name).  How do I migrate the Archive Point as well as the archived files to the new server?  I also want future archived files from the new server to go to the old Archive.

EV10 Tiered Storage questions

I need a solution

We are looking to deploy EV10 within the next few months, but I'm trying to get a better understanding of how the storage works.

We want to deploy a tiered storage model, using fast storage for indexes and new data, with mail migrating to slower storage after a period, and eventually migrating to tape.

On this basis:

- In a multi-server environment, how does the server interact with the storage layer? Are there any concerns with file locks etc if one of the servers goes down?

- How does mail move between tiers? What service is responsible for this? What happens if this service fails?

- How does SIS affect this? Is it possible for a new piece of mail to match one that has already moved to tape? If so, how will EV address this?

Any documentation/process diagrams which can provide some insight on the above would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Error 41320, But with a timeout

I need a solution

Hi

I have a customer running 10.0.3 HF2 on Windows 2008R2 Std (same error used to happen when it was at 10.0.1 by the looks of it)

The index admin service reports event 41320 with the text as follows:

A periodic Index Admin check could not determine the status of one or more Index Volumes that are managed by this server. (Error: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.)

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://entced.symantec.com/entt?product=ev&language=english&version=10.0.3.0&build=10.0.3.1090&error=V-437-41320

Have not been able to find anything about this one on here or the Support site other than the SSPI error type (and the SQL Table is already FQDN so that is OK anyway)

Do I need to dtrace the indexing service (presumably during an indexing service re-start) or is there somewhere else that this may be logged / reported to tell me exactly where the error is and maybe i need to adjust the timeout?

Other relevant information :

Single EV Server (SQL server is a seperate machine), Exchange Mailbox and Journaling from Exchange 2003 and 2010.

Large searches of the journal archives also timeout - event id 41315 - A search failed with the error "The Search did not complete in the required time" - the details of this indicate the timeout is set to 120.

The EV Server also experiences two other issues - event 13360 - error accessing VaultDatabase - details relate to a stored proceedure uspd_Journals having a deadlock on lock resources with another process followed immediately by event 6796 - A COM Exception 0x8040e14 - details relate to ClearExpiredJournalRecords

All may be related so thought i had best include those details too

Any help much appreciated

Cumulative Hotfix 2 for Outlook Add-in for EV 10.0.3 compatibility with EV 10.0.3 without hotfix

I need a solution

To get it to work properly for some end user PCs, we'll need to use the EV 10.0.3 Outlook Add-in with the Cumulative Hotfix 2.  Does that mean I would have to apply  the Cumulative Hotfix 2 for Enterprise Vault 10.0.3  on our  EV server as well?  Or can I get away with leaving the server as is since it seems to be running smoothly thay way.

Thanks,

I need a solution

Hello,

I'm trying to run a "SQL Server Reporting Services Data Analysis Reports", let say "Storage Summary" for example, it ask me to state the "Site Name", but the dropbox as no value and I can't write any, in the other hand in the "SQL Server Reporting Services Operation Reports" all the report I run as have the "Site Name" correctly filled. What I need to do to fix the problem?

If I use the administration Console's to access the Enterprise Vault Reporting's reports, I'm forwarded  to an old server, where can I correct this?

Best regards

Manual Archiving of Subfolders

I need a solution

We have a policy for executives that allows them to manually archive their email with the Enterprise Vault Outlook add-in.  A user reported that it only archives five subfolders at a time when they try to archive a folder with many subfolders.  Is this expected behavior?  Is there a way to change it?  I looked through the settings and didn't see any settings that seemed obvious at first glance.

For what it's worth, we're running Exchange 2010 and Enterprise Vault 10.0.1.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

PST collections

I need a solution

Is there a way, or will it be availble soon, to limit the collection of a PST to only those emails that are not responsive and not the entire PST?  I have several collections where large PST files are collected (counting against the Processing license) and only a handful of emails (less than 10% of the size of the PSTs) are actually responsive to the search criteria.

Hello,

I installed a new EVault 10.0.3 for Exchange 2010 and the system works fine, but when I try to view the messages under OWA, the message appears with the images as links not inside of message. The message is show well under Outlook 2010 but in OWA is the problem.

I think that I forgot something to adjust in the desktop or something else. I search in the knowledgebase without results.

Anybody knows how to solve this?

Deleting items while in backup mode error

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm getting the following error when deleting items while EV is in backup mode. The problem occurs both from Archive Explorer and search results. The error is as follows

From Archive Explorer

BackupMode.PNG

From Search results

BackupModeSearch.PNG

The problem I see is that this is not a user friendly error. it would be fantastic the message would say "item cannot be deledet at this moment" or something like that. An IIS internal error is not acceptable, and certainly is not for the customer.

This was initially raised by a customer running EV 10.0.2. I have since recreated the problem on my lab running EV 10.0.3

The environment:

EV Server:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard
  • SQL 2008 R2 Standard

Client:

  • Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise
  • Outlook 2007 & 2010

Steps to reproduce the problem:

  • Set the EV VaultStore in backup mode
  • From the client, on Archive explorer, select delete. Error 1 above is received
  • From the client, on search result, select delete. Error 2 above is received

I've setup bad request tracing on the ev servers and this is what I get

Error 6882, file is too large

I need a solution

Same problem that EV007 had in this thread:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ev-...

Too bad it is closed, because there is no solution, as far as I understand it.

Same version, EV 10.0.1, indexing error 6882, "The compound file is too large for the current implementation  (0x80030111)". No DVSCC, just DVFCC.

Problem file is 708CA20552AB00BA1B1097C812F103C1~5E~ABA2FF78~00~1.DVFCC and the size is 2,65GBs.

I made the query as Jeff Shotton advised in the thread:

select SP.Properties from Saveset SS
inner join savesetproperty SP on SS.Savesetidentity = SP.SavesetIdentity
where SS.IdTransaction = '708CA205-52AB-00BA-1B10-97C812F103C1'

Short version of results:

<originalSize>1416544586</originalSize>
<fileName>model.dmp</fileName>

EV007 found a large log-file that caused the problem. But then what?

Easy duplication of acces profiles

$

I've had a number of instances where a feature to copy existing user access profiles would have been very useful.  Instead we've had to spend a long time ensuring every last setting (quite complex ones with very specific permissions/folders/tags) has been accurately replicated over to the new profile.  This is obviously a very manual process and very error prone.  It would be a very simple thing for Symantec to automate and would reduce the risk of missing one permission setting or folder visibility setting.  In this instance we have hundreds of folders to replicate the visibility across.

Would it be possible to include this on the road map and eventually make it into the mainstream product?

Enterprise Vault 10 forward archived items issue

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a small situation :

Windows Server 2008 environment, with Outlook 2003, 2007, and Symantec Enterprise Vault 10.

I understand that when I try to drag and drop or attach an archived Outlook item to a new message will only attach the shortcut and not the original message.

But when i want to forward an archived item, with Outlook 2010 is not in exchange cache mode, forwarding does not work, by right clicking - forward or trying directly forward from the tab.

On the other hand in Outlook 2003, forwarding from the menu works with cache mode enabled or disable, but not with right clicking.

Please see below the Outlook client log

OutlookItemEvents::AttachmentAdd: 0x0

Due to a restriction in Outlook, Enterprise Vault cannot process attachments when Outlook is not in cached mode

~OutlookItemEvents::AttachmentAdd: 0x80004005

OutlookItemEvents::AttachmentAdd: 0x0

Due to a restriction in Outlook, Enterprise Vault cannot process attachments when Outlook is not in cached mode

Any help will be much appreciated.

I need a solution

I feel like the answer exists somewhere in the forums based on what I have already read, but not sure how to put it all together.

It seems to me that there is an EV user who has a folder in their archive that is an issue but I have no idea how to figure out who that user is.  I've searched the forums to find out how to determine which user ParentFolderVEID: 1AE724AAE4B372B40BE9B3048FC89E8E21110000evsite.nikeseclp.com belongs to but I couldn't find the answer.  I'm guessing this is not the right query to run but I did try (which returned nothing):

USE EnterpriseVaultDirectory
SELECT * from ArchiveFolderView
WHERE ArchiveVEID = '1AE724AAE4B372B40BE9B3048FC89E8E21110000evsite.ourdomain.com'

If I can determine the user, I can go find out what is wrong with the folder(s) that are marked for archiving that are causing the issue.  A Symantec support agent did try to help with these errors a while ago but made no progress, though did a lo of work on it.  I'd be grateful for any guidance!

FSA - something is recalling placeholders!

I need a solution

Hi

I've just implemented a new EV 10.0.2 solution for email and file archiving and am experiencing difficulty with the placeholder service. The FSA configuration is 2 x windows file servers (one is running 2008 R2 and is VMware vm and the other is a physical Windows 2003 SP2 - 32bit). I have a single share on each server and single folder on each share. The archiving strategy is to move 'project' work into this folder once the projects are complete and EV to archive these  projects after overnight. So I've created a folder policy to archive all files older than 0 days and set the shortcuts to create placeholders immediately - the vault store is set to remove safety copies after backup.

Everything seems ok and to test this I took a sample project moved it into the archive folder and kicked off the archiving task - the files were archived as expected. I then ran a manual backup to ensure the safety copies could be removed and re-ran the FSA task. The files were immediately replaced by placeholders as anticipated - however within seconds they all started to come back again.

AV is the most likely suspect but the 2008 server has no AV installed and the 2003 server had all the AV services stopped. I also stopped all the backup agent services (there were no backups running anyway) and also checked the beremote.exe was in the 'exclude .exes' registry key. I've run dtrace on both servers to try to find which process is recalling the placeholders but all I get is the below:

1949   18:18:56.983  [2452]       (EvPlaceholderService)     <780>  EV:M       WorkItem::GetExeNameUsingPHHelper: Failed to get .exe name for pid [4] using IPlaceholderSvcHelper, error: 0x80070005

I can't think of anything to try next - both servers a very different (eg diffent versions of OS, one physical and one virtual etc) so I'm thinking it must be something on the EV server?? I'm using the EV agent for backup exec to backup the system (hence why 10,0,2 and not 10,0,3) and there are no vault stores stuck in backup mode.

The email archiving is working fine and archived mail stays archived -

All thoughts greatfully receieved.

many thanks K

Automatically associate Active Directory Manager with Escalation Manager

$

We are in the middle of deploying Clearwell eDiscovery, and it is very frustrating to us that there isn't a way to automate the population of escalation manager with Active Directory manager.  It would even be helpful if we could schedule a CSV upload with the information into the system but that doesn't appear possible either.  We have a lot of potential custodians and having to do this manually ruins the "automation" that Clearwell is supposed to provide.
